SHEFFIELD MP David Blunkett is appealing for sponsorship for a group of young people from the city to travel to the Olympics to help out as volunteers.
The Brightside and Hillsborough MP made the appeal after meeting a group of 18 members of the Sheffield Academy of Young Leaders, who have been chosen as stewards for Games this summer.
The group is now fundraising to pay for the costs their will incur in the city.
Meeting the group at the Shirecliffe Jubilee Fun Day, Mr Blunkett said: “These young leaders have been enormously successful in being nominated to steward in this year’s Olympics Games.
“It is a massive opportunity for the group, and I welcome the enormous commitment of the community and partners in supporting them.
“Unlike young people in London and the South East, they have to raise substantial sums for travel, accommodation and subsistence.
“For those who are able to, please give as generously as you can to support these young leaders this summer.”
One of the youngsters is doing a sponsored skydive to raise cash.
