Sheffield martial arts academy fighting fit thanks to funding

A Sheffield-based martial arts academy founded by 14-times world karate champion Megan Abel has been able to get ‘off the ground’ thanks to funding from city firms UK Steel Enterprise and Shepherd Distribution.

Founded in January, Utopia Martial Arts teaches children various forms of martial arts, semi-contact kick-boxing and extreme martial arts.

The funding allowed the company, based at @theacademy in Shalesmoor, to purchase two complete fighting areas.

Megan runs the academy with the support of her sister Alicia - a brown belt in Karate and the current International Sports Kickboxing Association British Musical Weapons Champion.
