Sheffield man killed in train collision

A man aged 21 from Sheffield has died after suffering serious injuries when he was struck by a train.

The incident happened near to the East Bank tunnel, south of Sheffield railway station, on Friday, at about 9.30pm.

Paramedics were called and the man was rushed to the Northern General Hospital in Fir Vale for treatment, but he died in the early hours of yesterday morning.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said the man collided with the 6.15pm East Midlands Trains service from London St Pancras to Leeds as it passed through Sheffield on Friday night.

He said: “A file will be prepared for the coroner and the incident is not being treated as suspicious.”
