The orders are issued by courts to protect victims of domestic abuse.

Perpetrators have a set of conditions to adhere to and the aim is to give victims some breathing space to consider their options.

Adnett received a 14-day jail term for his breaches.

PC Freddie Le-Billon Payne said: “We are absolutely committed to protecting victims of domestic abuse and will do all we can to safeguard vulnerable members of our communities.

“This sentence should serve as a warning that breaches of DVPOs are taken seriously and offenders can and will go to prison if they repeatedly put someone at risk.

“Even if a victim of domestic abuse is afraid to give evidence or unwilling to go to court, which unfortunately can happen as a result of their abuse, I hope this case highlights that South Yorkshire Police will work with the courts to take positive action to protect victims.”
