A man suffered a fractured skull and broken nose after being struck repeatedly about the head with a hammer in a shocking attack in Sheffield.
The 27-year-old was set upon as he stepped off a bus on Lowedges Road, Lowedges.
Police said a car pulled up alongside him moments after he got off the number 53 bus.
Detectives investigating the incident – more than a month ago at 10.20pm on Tuesday, June 4, but the details of which have only just been released – said they are treating the vicious attack as ‘targeted’.
They said the victim was crossing the road behind the bus when a silver car pulled up alongside him.
A man got out and began striking the victim over the head with a weapon.
Police said the attacker then drove off in the direction of Meadowhead roundabout.
A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “A man got off a number 53 bus on Lowedges Road in Sheffield.
“As he began to cross the road behind the bus, an unknown man pulled up in a silver car.
“He got out of the vehicle, approached the 27-year-old and began to hit him repeatedly with what is believed may have been a hammer.”
