A 30-year-old man who had sex with a 13-year-old girl has been sent to prison for five years.
Russell Ledger, of Tynker Avenue, Beighton, befriended the teenage girl and had sexual intercourse with her at an address in Sheffield in September 2012.
Police were made aware of the crime after the girl told staff at her school that she had had sex with Ledger.
Det Con Helen Hughes, who led the investigation against Ledger, commended the young victim for being so brave during the investigation.
She said: “The patience and courage that the victim has shown throughout the lengthy investigative process has been truly commendable, especially bearing in mind her young age.
“I can only hope that this custodial sentence for Ledger brings some closure to what has been an extremely traumatic time for her.
“South Yorkshire Police takes all reports of crime extremely seriously and, as this case proves, will work tirelessly to gather every shred of evidence in order to bring offenders to justice.”
Ledger was sentenced to five years in prison at Sheffield Crown Court today. He was also put on the Sex Offenders Register for life.
