A SPORTS club is pressing ahead with a refurbishment by opening a state-of-the-art gym.

Sheffield’s Hillsborough Leisure Centre invited members to the grand opening of its new cardio extension, one of the first phases of its six-figure overhaul.

Peter Clark, Fitness Unlimited manger, said: “Hillsborough Leisure Centre has 6,000 members.

“This event was about giving the local community and our members the chance to view the work that has already taken place to expand our cardio area but also find out what other improvements are planned as part of the investment programme.”

Equipment in cardio-vascular and resistance areas has risen from 50 to 85.

Sheffield International Venues, owners of Hillsborough Leisure Centre, announced plans to double the size of the gym last year. Work is due to finish in March.
