Floral tributes have been left outside a Sheffield pub following the death of its landlady.

Flowers and sympathy cards have been placed outside The Queen’s Head, High Green, where a sign in the window reads ‘closed until further notice’.

Landlady Catherine Golland was found dead at the bottom of the set of stairs leading to her flat above the pub in the early hours of Sunday.

She had been socialising with friends in the pub next door, The Old Cart and Horses, just a few hours earlier.

Shocked members of staff discovered her body and raised the alarm.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Police were called to the Queen’s Head public house on Wortley Road, High Green, at around 2.30am on Sunday.

“The body of a 57-year-old woman was found inside the pub.

“The Coroner has been informed and a post mortem is expected to take place later this week.

“At this time, police are not treating the death as suspicious.”
