JOHN Franklin was the first man across the finish lane of Sheffield’s Half Marathon today with a whopping time of 1:10:31.
“I’m really pleased,” he told The Star, seconds after crossing the finishing line.
“I’m so tired and hot, but completely thrilled,” said the 28-year-old, of the Metropolitan Police.
“The weather has made it so difficult today but there’s been a great atmosphere
“It’s always been my dream to come first in my home town so I can’t believe it!”
Nicola Squires, of the Hallamshire Harriers, was the first lady to make it back in 1:21:22.
“I didn’t beat my best time, but in this heat it’s hardly suprising,” said the 26-year-old.
“I haven’t done much training for the half marathon this time, which makes it all the more lovely to come in first among the ladies.”
Snooker legend Steve Davis, who was running for the Paul Hunter Foundation, made it across the finish line in 2 hours 42 minutes.
