A gym owner is aiming to raise thousands of pounds for a charity close to his heart by taking on a gruelling Ironman challenge.
Jamie Cartwright, who runs two Ladyzone gyms in Hunters Bar and Hillsborough, will compete on September 14 in Pembrokeshire, Wales.
The Ironman, which is considered to be one of the hardest challenges in the world of sport, consists of a 2.4 mile open water swim, followed by a 112-mile cycle and a marathon run.
Jamie is hoping his participation in the event will allow him to raise £3,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
He is supporting the charity after losing three of his grandparents to cancer.
Jamie said: “I’m 34 now and I will never train for anything as physically and mentally demanding as an Ironman.
“This will test everything I have to the absolute limit, but I want to prove to my members that, if you put your mind to it, you can do anything.”
He said he hoped his efforts will inspire the members of his ladies-only gyms.
“When you embark on a physical challenge like this and begin to make the positive lifestyle changes that go with it, you end up inspiring those around you too.”
