A Sheffield chippie has been recommended as one of the top 12 off the beaten track fish and chip shops in the UK.
Two Steps Fish and Chips, on Sharrowvale Road, made it into the HolidayLettings - a TripAdvisor company - guide entitled Bigger Fish to Fry: 12 Fish & Chip Shops You Need to Try.
The guide says: "Since it appeared in 1865, this fish and chip shop has become a local Sheffield landmark. Even the name developed as a way for locals to distinguish the shop from its rival across the road, by referring to the two steps up to the door.
"The Two Steps team are passionate about preserving Yorkshire food traditions, so stop by for fish, chips, rissoles, pies and their famous buttered breadcakes. As one TripAdvisor reviewer says, it’s 'never a let down'."
Two Steps was first opened as a ‘Fried Fish Dealer’ in 1895.
Its unusual name was invented over 100 years ago by locals wishing to distinguish the chip shop with ‘two steps up to its front door’ from its rival across the road and it has been used fondly ever since..
