Sheffield facing heatwaves and droughts - AUDIO
SHEFFIELD is facing hotter summers – with heatwaves and droughts and even more flash flooding, according to experts at a city climate change conference.
Summer temperatures in the city are forecast to go up by 3.2 degrees centigrade but when the rain does fall it will come in more intensive bursts, increasing the risk of flooding.
Winters will also be warmer and wetter with a possible 14 per cent increase in rainfall – changes that would have a catastrophic impact on the region's landscape and wildlife.
The stark warning comes from politicians, environmentalists and lawyers who took part in a major climate change conference in Sheffield.

The event attracted business, academic, local government and environmental leaders from across the country who gathered to discuss the challenges posed by climate change.
Secretary of State for the Environment Hilary Benn told the audience everyone had a part to play in helping to limit the impact of climate change and stop it from getting worse.
Other speakers included leading ecologist and chairman of the Royal Commission on environmental pollution Prof Sir John Hartley Lawton, regional director of Natural England Shaun Thomas.
