A group of adventurous Sheffielders have been waved-off on a month-long trip by the Lord Mayor of Sheffield.
The 12 explorers, aged 17 to 65, were selected by the Sheffield-Esteli Society to visit the city’s twin town in Nicaragua where they will be given an insight into the Central American country.
During the trip, which marks 30 years of friendship between Sheffield and Esteli, the group will visit local families as well as a number of development projects.
They will also be delivering a range of gifts including Sheffield produce, guitar strings for the music projects and aids for retirement homes.
Lord Mayor of Sheffield Coun Peter Rippon and his wife Susan bade the group farewell as they embarked on their adventure, which will be filmed by a trip participant.
Sheffield declared its friendship with the people of Esteli in 1984 and officially twinned in 1986.
