Sheffield engineers put on the spot

TALENTED student engineers from Sheffield University were given a nail-biting challenge inspired by the hit TV series The Apprentice.

The second years faced the music in the university’s Sir Frederick Mappin Building after forming themselves into teams. They then had to showcase their ideas which were aimed at making a big impact on the industrial world.

All the students who signed up for the week-long event, titled Engineering – You’re Hired, were able to gain the real-life experience of tendering for a project.

They pitched their proposals and then had to deal with an evolving brief as part of the programme, which was designed to enhance their employability skills.

The teams received feedback each day from industry experts on their plans.
