World champion mountain biker Steve Peat has announced details of his annual downhill race which takes place in Sheffield on Saturday, May 2.
Peaty’s Steel City Downhill takes place in Grenoside Wood with hundreds of racers and thousands of supporters are expected to turn out.
This year the track is being totally reworked by local trail builders Biketrack.org to create an exciting and challenging course.
There will also be a speed trap for the fastest racers.
Bradfield Brewery will quench thirsts with a custom ale, Motoré Café will be providing coffee, Streetfood Chef will serve burritos and Whirlow Hall Farm Café will offer a barbecue and hog roast.
The top prize is £1,000 cash to be split evenly between the fastest men and women.
Steve said last year’s race ‘raised the bar for women’s downhill racing, adding: “We would love to see more women racing at this year’s event.”
An official after party takes place at the New Barrack Tavern, on Penistone Road, where there will be a free beer for all racers.
Proceeds will be spent maintaining the trails.
