Dementia services in Sheffield have featured in a national report about the condition.
NHS Sheffield Clinical Commissioning Group was singled out for having good dementia training programmes across all care providers including GPs, community teams, care home staff and council employees in the report.
Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was also highlighted for ensuring all new staff receive dementia training.
The news comes during Dementia Awareness Week, and as city providers appeal for volunteers to become ‘dementia friends’ to help car for those with the condition.
Dr Steve Thomas, a GP and dementia specialist, said: “The provision of high quality care and support for people with dementia and their carers is a top priority.”
NHS England carried out the report, which examined care and looked at ways to improve it. It said the voluntary sector was making a ‘huge difference’ to care.
