Sheffield delivery man hurt trying to stop thief

A BRAVE delivery worker was injured after being dragged along a Sheffield street while trying to stop his van being stolen.

The delivery driver was dropping off Christmas parcels at 11am yesterday, on Downing Road, Greenhill, when a thief tried to jump into his van and drive away. A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “The driver of the van was delivering parcels at the time of the incident.

“He attempted to stop his Citroen Berlingo vehicle from being stolen and, as a result, he was dragged along by the vehicle for a short distance.He sustained minor injuries,” he added.

The spokeswoman said the suspect was a white man, about 20 years old, unshaven, and wearing a black hooded top and jeans.

“The van was recovered a short time later but a number of parcels were reported to have been stolen,” she added.

Anyone with any information about the theft is urged to contact South Yorkshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 341 of Thursday, December 20.
