A cyclist died following a collision in Sheffield.

A cyclist died following a collision in Sheffield this morning.

The 55-year-old man, from the city, was knocked off his bike Whirlowdale Road, near to the junction with Abbey Lane, at around 8am.

He was taken to hospital to be treated for serious injuries following the collision with a black Vauxhall Astra, but later died.

The driver of the car, a 26-year-old woman, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Police are appealing for witnesses and are keen to trace the driver of another vehicle who briefly stopped at the scene.
