Anne and Mick Staniforth celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with champagne and their favourite pastime... karaoke.

The pair, both aged 72 from Hackenthorpe, Sheffield, threw a party for friends and family at the clubhouse of their beloved caravan site in Mablethorpe.

Anne said: “It was a wonderful day. We cracked open a bottle of champagne in the caravan and then sung karaoke all afternoon.

“We have a lot of friends who sing so they loved it.

“John’s probably the better singer out of the two of us but I do alright. My favourite karaoke song is Doris Day’s Perhaps.”

The couple were childhood sweethearts and started dating aged 13 when they met at school.

Anne said: “When we were younger you got married for life. Our marriage has been so successful because we do everything together.”

The couple love to travel and have visited lots of countries over the years, including Egypt, Turkey and Cyprus.

John, who worked as a skill centre instructor for years, said: “Our favourite has to be Tenerife because of the great weather.

“We like to use the caravan but you can’t always rely on the sunshine unfortunately.”

The couple spend their weekends there though.

Anne said: “We go every week because we have a lot of friends at the site and there is a real holiday atmosphere.”

The couple, who have two children, are making the most of their retirement.

Anne used to work in a car showroom but now likes to swim and play golf with her husband.

She said: “John normally beats me at golf but we both enjoy staying fit and active.”
