An author from Norton Lees who triumped in the TV cookery show Come Dine With Me is returning to the small screen in a ‘champion of champions’ competition.

Jude Calvert-Toulmin was voted the winner when the Channel 4 show visited Sheffield five years ago.

Now she is among 48 contestants chosen out of more than 1,300 previous winners to appear on Come Dine With Me Champions.

The new show, which starts on Monday, involves 12 previous winners competing each week in a Masterchef-style contest hosted by Come Dine With Me’s commentator Dave Lamb.

The show was filmed at a country house in Derbyshire and participants were judged by Michelin-starred chef Glynn Purnell, of Purnell’s in Birmingham.

Jude is an erotic novelist. Her fourth book, A Passion for Classic Cars, is published this summer.

“Despite the hilarity it was a tough competition,” said Jude, who appears on Monday and next Friday’s episodes. “We were presented with ingredients and told what to make with no recipes, you had to know what you were doing and it was all against the clock.”
