MORE than 100 volunteers turned out to clean up a Sheffield community.

The group from Hope City Church picked litter, trimmed hedges, mowed lawns and dredged ponds around Woodthorpe.

Local businesses also supported the day, which targeted the Fishponds recreation space, parkland, gardens and a DIY store being converted into a community centre with Woodthorpe Development Trust.

Ali Bianchi, Sheffield family life pastor for the church, said: “With the sun shining, Woodthorpe was awash with fluorescent jackets and people of all ages litter picking, hedge trimming, lawn mowing and even pond dredging, with the aid of a dinghy.

“The volunteers made a significant impact on the Woodthorpe area, welcomed by both residents and community groups alike.”

The church thanked firms which supported them.
