The owner of a Sheffield café has been fined more than £1,400 after allowing customers to smoke shisha pipes illegally.

Rasouli Karimi, aged 29, who runs Dubai Café on London Road, ignored verbal and written warnings from Sheffield Council’s health and safety enforcement team that the premises should have been kept smoke-free.

He was due to appear at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court last week, but failed to attend, so the case was heard in his absence.

Kamiri, of Jamaica Street, Burngreave, was ordered to pay £1,421 in fines and costs.

He was charged with breaching the 2006 Health Act by allowing smoking.

The café will continue to be monitored by council enforcement officers to check the rules are not flouted again.
