Business owners gave electric vehicles a test drive as part of a bid to reduce harmful emissions in Sheffield.

They gave the cars a whirl at Bramall Lane as part of a county-wide project led by Sheffield Council. Grants towards leasing a plug-in van or car are available.

Coun Jack Scott, environment chief, said the cars could travel 100 miles for a cost of £2, with charging points being installed across the county.

He added: “I think this is the future.”
