A MAN is in hospital with serious injuries after falling through a window in his second floor flat when confronting a burglar.
The 23-year-old, who has not been named by police, was found in the communal garden to the rear of the four-storey Ventnor Court on Wostenholm Road, Sharrow, in the early hours of Sunday.
Police said they were alerted to the incident at 1.30am and found a man slumped on the ground with serious injuries.
He was rushed to the Northern General Hospital by ambulance, where his condition was described as ‘critical but stable.
Detectives said the man appeared to have ‘fallen’ through a window in his flat as it was being broken into.
A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “A man is in a serious condition in hospital following an alleged burglary in Sheffield.
“Police attended an address on Wostenholm Road in Sheffield at 1.30am on Sunday following reports of a man seriously injured in a back garden.
“It appears the 23-year-old man has fallen from a window after an alleged burglary at his second-floor flat.
“The injured man is currently detained at the Northern General Hospital where his condition is described as ‘critical but stable’”.
A 23-year-old man was arrested over the incident yesterday morning and later bailed pending further inquiries.
Neighbours in the block of flats said there was a lot of police activity on Sunday but said they had been unaware of what happened.
