A brownie leader is set to compete against 60 contestants in a bid to be crowned Miss England.
Kristy Lowe, aged 20, of Kings Coppice, Dore, has been preparing for the contest for months since winning the title of Miss South Yorkshire earlier this year.
She will head to Torquay from June 14 to 16 to compete against other girls in a series of rounds including a popularity contest, an eco-dress round and a beachwear segment.
Kristy said: “I have as good a chance as anybody else has.
“I never expected to win Miss South Yorkshire.
“I’m really looking forward to taking part.
“I met all the girls at Miss South Yorkshire and they were all really lovely.”
The Blackmoor Brownie leader has been involving youngsters in helping to make her eco-dress while giving talks at the Dore-based brownies group and 1st Dore Guides, as well as bag-packing with brownies to raise money for charity Beauty With A Purpose.
There will also be an army-style boot camp round as part of the competition.
Kristy added: “I’ve been going to the gym to prepare for that. I don’t think people realise what the pageants are really about.
“I think people think it’s a really vain thing but there’s much more to it. You have to be a well-rounded person.
“I’m really excited for this because I have never done anything like this before.”
