Two brothers have sheared off their beloved locks to raise more than £1,600 for Sheffield Children’s Hospital.

Gareth and Tommy Jones, who live in Dronfield, decided to go under the scissors on New Year’s Day after their cousin Jack told them his young son had been diagnosed with leukaemia.

Tommy told The Star: “Noah is only two and it spurred us both into action to help in any way we could.

“We both loved our long hair and beards and decided that, for us, the ultimate sacrifice would be to go from hippy to... well, nippy!”

The pair raised hundreds of pounds with the kindhearted gesture through their JustGiving page.

Tommy, who has had long hair for over 10 years, added: “I was nervous but it was for an amazing cause, so I didn’t hesitate.

“I’m definitely chilly without my hair to keep me warm but I am so grateful to everyone who donated.”
