Work to strengthen and repair a Sheffield bridge will take a month longer than originally expected, Sheffield Council has said.

Corrosion between the main beams and panels that support the road surface of Walkley Lane Bridge, which crosses the River Loxley at Hillsborough, is being fixed in the works, which started in July.

The council says ‘extensive deterioration’ has been found, further maintenance is required and the closure of the bridge to traffic will last until December 19 - it will also be shut for a weekend in January.
