Black bin collections due in Sheffield today will be made as planned ‘where possible’, the council’s contractor has said.

Veolia said collections in Stannington, Stocksbridge, Hillsborough and Oughtibridge should go ahead.

Staff are also still dealing with a backlog of black bins that were scheduled for collection on Saturday and Monday but cancelled by cold weather.

However blue bin/box collections may not be made today in the Green Hill, Lowedges, Jordanthorpe, Batemoor, Norton, Charnock, Base Green, Gleadless, Norton Lees, Intake and Woodseats areas.

A Veolia spokesman said: “If your collection is not made then alternative arrangements and further information will be confirmed and available on our website as soon as possible.

“The weekend snowfall and ongoing icy conditions have resulted in delays to waste and recycling collections.

“Many side roads remain snowy and icy which make for difficult conditions for large refuse collection vehicles and collections staff to operate safely in.”
