Hairdressers in Sheffield sprang into action after their barber shop was hit by a hair-raising lightning bolt.
Sweeney 4, on Ecclesall Road, was one of two properties in South Yorkshire struck by lightning during the huge electrical storm early on Saturday.
Firefighters were called to the premises at 3.20am and found flames coming out of the shop’s front window.
They quickly established there was nobody inside and stayed at the scene until 5am tackling the blaze.
The building was left severely fire and smoke damaged, with many items of equipment beyond repair.
Owner Graham Foster said: “It was our worst nightmare.
“It was very bad news, but now we just want to get the place back up and running as soon as we possibly can.”
The team of about eight members of staff are now working hard to salvage what they can from the charred remains and complete a major clean-up operation.
Graham said: “All the staff have been mucking in and helping us to get back to normal.
“We are working as quickly as we can to get back to where we were.
“We will try to keep customers informed and hope to be back open in a week or two.”
Elsewhere, a house on Meadowhall Road, Kimberworth, Rotherham, was left with scorch marks in an upstairs bedroom after being struck by lightning during the storm.
