A Sheffield band can develop a concert standard percussion section after it won £5,000 through a community vote.

Loxley Silver Band members are celebrating after they were successful in securing the cash from the OneFamily Foundation.

The money will be used to purchase instruments for the new percussion section, including tubular bells, glockenspiel, cymbals and smaller percussion items.

Committee member Alison Webb said: “This funding award is amazing news for us. The project will enable both the main and training bands to improve their sound quality and attract new members, significantly improving the quality of experience for all audiences.”

She thanked everyone who voted for the band to win.
