THANK YOU for doing your bit to help Sheffield’s abandoned pets.

That’s the message to readers of The Star from staff at the RSPCA Sheffield Animal Centre.

General manager Stella White says the public’s support over the past year has been ‘fantastic’, and invaluable.

She added: “We are so grateful to all the readers of The Star newspaper for their ongoing support, stock, and monetary donations, especially during these difficult financial times for everyone.

“We would like to say a huge thank you and to wish people and their pets a very merry Christmas.

“Although we are proud to carry the title of the RSPCA, we do not receive any funding from the national RSPCA or any government agency.

“It often surprises people to discover we are a standalone charity.

“We must raise all our own funds through things like fundraising events, our new charity shops at Hillsborough and Woodseats, through stock and from monetary donations.”

It costs around £2,000 every day to run the centre in Stadium Way, Attercliffe.

Staff aim to rehabilitate and rehome unwanted and cruelly treated animals, as well as providing an advisory role to pet-owners about animal care.

The centre also offers opportunities for pet owners who are in receipt of certain state benefits to be able to access affordable veterinary care, neutering, microchipping and competitively priced defleaing products.

Stella said: “We are open over the Christmas holiday for viewings, every day from 12.30pm until 3.30pm, except Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Day and Wednesdays. We welcome any visitors to our centre during this seasonal period to view our animals, although any adoption procedure cannot be fully completed until at least January 3 to protect all our animals from being given as potentially unwanted Christmas presents.”

Anyone who wishes to make a donation to the RSPCA Sheffield Branch’s - especially to its ongoing ‘Woody’s Legacy Appeal’ - is urged to call 0114 289 8057.
