Police have made a public plea for information about the theft of 47 sheep from moorland on the edge of Sheffield.
The flock was stolen from Houndkirk Moor, near Fox House, between September 27 and November 18.
On September 27, the sheep were collected and given routine injections, however, when they were collected again on November 18, 47 sheep were missing and three sheep had received bullet wounds and other injuries.
The injured sheep had to be put down.
The Food Standards Agency fears the stolen sheep were killed for meat which could be contaminated with residues of the medicine and warn people not to consume lamb or mutton from unknown sources.
Anyone with information about the theft should call 101 quoting incident number 325 of November 18.
