AN undercover police operation was mounted in Barnsley following a spate of thefts from sheds and garages.
Members of Wombwell Safer Neighbourhood Team went undercover in hotspot areas and uniformed patrols were also stepped up
A number of stop and search checks were carried out and officers found two 23-year-old men in possession of cannabis.
Officers also visited a number of properties to give security advice and to promote a national database homeowners can use to log details of their electrical items in case they are ever stolen.
Inspector Alan Simpson said the undercover operation had helped reassure worried residents.
He said: “The increased patrols and advice provided for residents reassured them that their concerns are being taken seriously.
“Our Safer Neighbourhood Team is committed to making the area an even safer place to live, as part of this we are dedicated to raising levels of policing to ensure residents feel safe at all time.”
