BASKETBALL players helped unveil a new sports pitch in a surprise visit at a Sheffield school.

Sheffield Sharks’ members tried out the new facility - which can host netball, football and basketball - at Greystones Primary School.

The school’s Home & School Association raised £15,000 to pay for the pitch by running craft and summer fairs, cake sales, pub quizzes and more sponsored events.

Parent Kate Robinson raised £1,500 by running the Sheffield Half Marathon.

Members of the School Council helped choose the pitch and are planning a new climbing frame for junior pupils in the playground.

An outdoor classroom and seating area are also proving popular after the association collected money for the development.

The next fundraising event is a summer fair on Saturday, from 11am to 2pm in the school on Tullibardine Road, including games, stalls, crafts, food and live music.
