A SOUTH Yorkshire sex education programme has won the prestigious Pamela Sheridan Award 2011.

Barnsley Sex, Drugs and Alcohol steering group, participated in by three-quarters of primary schools and every secondary since starting in 2009, will receive £1,000 worth of resources after winning a national education prize from the sexual health charity Family Planning Association.

Coun Linda Burgess, Barnsley Council cabinet spokesperson for children, young people and families, said: “We are proud to be recognised for the work that has been done by the steering group.”
