Sex attack on woman near Sheffield tram stop

DETECTIVES are investigating a report of a serious sexual assault on a woman in her 40s in the Hillsborough area of Sheffield.

The alleged attack is believed to have taken place at around 10.30pm on Saturday, in a wooded area off Langsett Road near the Langsett Road tram stop.

Locals reported seeing the area sealed off with police tape - and false rumours circulating that there had been a murder.

Newsagent Mick Wiles told The Star: “I saw a police car at about 9am on Sunday and there was a CSI-style van too. Somebody said it was a major police incident.”

Detectives are continuing with their inquiries.
