RSPCA investigators are looking into a ‘number of leads’ after a dog was scalded and dumped in a canal in South Yorkshire.

Staffordshire bull terrier Colin is recovering with Sheffield-based charity Rain Rescue after his skin and fur was burned off in the attack.

He was found whimpering by the waterside in Holmes, Rotherham, by a passer-by days later.

An RSPCA spokesman said: “We are currently following up a number of leads. However, as this is an active investigation we cannot make any further comment at this stage.”
