Seven ‘significant’ investigations into suspected child grooming gangs are underway in South Yorkshire - including two in Rotherham, it has been revealed.
A report by police and crime commissioner Shaun Wright to Thursday’s police and crime panel meeting revealed the number of live investigations taking place into allegations ‘involving multiple perpetrators and victims’.
Mr Wright’s report said there are currently 179 live child sexual exploitation investigations being carried out by South Yorkshire Police, with 60 of those cases related to Rotherham.
Mr Wright told Thursday’s meeting he agrees ‘industrial-scale’ child abuse is still taking place across South Yorkshire. He said: “It’s just as prevalent today as it was in 2010 or 2005.”
