Service for new Archdeacon
A PITSMOOR vicar will be the next Archdeacon of Sheffield and Rotherham.
The Rev Martyn Snow, vicar of Christ Church, Pitsmoor and area dean of Ecclesfield, will take up is new post in a service at Sheffield Cathedral on April 29. He will succeed Richard Blackburn who last year became Bishop of Warrington.
Martyn, aged 42, graduated from Sheffield University and has been ordained since 1995. Apart from a stint with the Church Mission Society between 1998-2001, he has served all of his ministry so far in the Diocese of Sheffield.
Archdeacons assist bishops in the effective running of a Diocese.
Bishop of Sheffield Dr Steven Croft said: "Martyn will bring significant gifts and energy to the post of Archdeacon. I thank God for his appointment and look forward to working with him in the years to come."
The Rev Snow said: "I count it an enormous privilege to be invited to take up the post of Archdeacon of Sheffield and Rotherham.
"My wife and I are extremely sad to be leaving Christ Church Pitsmoor after eight-and-a-half thoroughly enjoyable years. We have made so many friends in this vibrant community and we are thankful that we will not be moving too far away."
Martyn is married to Lynn and they have three young children. He will officially begin his ministry as Archdeacon of Sheffield and Rotherham at a special service at 7.30pm at Sheffield Cathedral on Thursday April 29.
