See the new 10K race route set for Sheffield city centre and Ecclesall Road

The Asda Foundation Sheffield 10K – which takes place on Sunday, October 30 - will start in Arundel Gate in the heart of the city and take runners on a journey along Charter Row and along Ecclesall Road, before skirting the edges of Endcliffe Park.

It continues along Riverdale Road, along Endcliffe Vale Road, close to the Botanical Gardens, then travels down Brocco Bank and back to what is set to be an exhilarating city centre finish.

The new Asda Foundation Sheffield 10K is being organised by Run For All, the not-for-profit company behind the annual Yorkshire Half Marathon-Sheffield, working in partnership with Sheffield Council.

Charlie Tatman, Run For All event manager, said: “We’re very excited to be able to announce the route of this much-anticipated new event. It’s a fantastic new challenge for the city and the region, with a fantastic city centre start and finish.

“We already know from the half marathon, just how amazing the support in Sheffield is. Now people have the chance to be able to experience that at the Sheffield 10K on Sunday 30th October.”

Councillor Mary Lea, cabinet member for culture, parks and leisure at Sheffield Council, said: “We are thrilled to announce this fantastic new route for our 10K road race.

“We know from the half marathon that starting and finishing in the city centre and taking in Ecclesall Road will draw in great crowds that are sure to motivate our runners and create an electric atmosphere on the day.

“This route once again demonstrates Sheffield’s credentials as The Outdoor City, a place where you can you experience big city life and the great outdoors within such close proximity.

“Sheffield is a very active city, with a long sporting history and I’m confident that this will be another popular event on our sporting calendar that will attract runners old and new who will hopefully inspire others to follow in their footsteps. And with a free family fun run after the main race, those who are inspired can have a go and take that first step to leading healthier, more active lifestyles.”

The Sheffield 10K is the latest addition to the hugely successful Asda Foundation 10K series, which includes runs in Leeds, York, Lincoln, Burnley, Nottingham, Bury and Hull.

The series is organised by Run For All, part of the legacy of the late Jane Tomlinson, who raised nearly £2m for charity by tackling a string of endurance challenges despite being diagnosed with incurable cancer.
