See new Parkway footbridge winning design
THIS is the winning design for a new footbridge over the Parkway in Sheffield, which has beaten competition from 100 other designs in an international competition.
Based on a simple ring design, the winning submission by Tim Norlund, a young architect from Denmark, was said by judges to be both "inspired and inspiring".
The judges were looking for a design that would be a "pleasure to cross, that responds to the local landscape, is deliverable, and beautiful to look at".

Work to build the 2 million bridge will begin this autumn, and the new city landmark should be completed by summer 2009.
It will be built jointly by Sheffield and Rotherham Councils on the border of the two authorities, near Tinsley Golf Course, paid for by Yorkshire Forward.
Norlund joined forces with Ramboll Whitby Bird after his design was shortlisted to the second stage in the competition.
The judging panel, chaired by RIBA Adviser Nik Randall of Space Craft Architects, included representatives from the two councils and Yorkshire Forward.
The competition produced entries from 14 different countries.
Nik Randall said: "The quality of the concepts by the shortlisted entries was, without exception, very high. All the finalists exhibited unique characteristics and each would ultimately have provided an elegant and memorable design.
"However, there can only be one winner and it was felt the design by Tim Norlund and Ramboll Whitby Bird provided a wonderful response.
"It will be a simple and optimistic icon for the region and we have every confidence it will become a much-loved local landmark."
Tim Norlund said: "As a young architect at the beginning of my career, I'm very excited to get the opportunity to take this project further from a conceptual idea and all the way to completion.
"I'm looking forward to people using and enjoying the bridge, as much as I have enjoyed designing it."
Coun Mary Lea, Sheffield Council's cabinet member for sustainable environment, added: "It was fascinating to be part of the selection process and I think it was an excellent choice.
"I really feel this design showed a lot of imagination that will provide a memorable feature on the busiest gateway into the city."
