The 'flash mob' choir delighted travellers with a rousing five-minute medley of Christmas carols in the forecourt of the station. After the singing was over the 82 choir members dispersed as suddenly as they had gathered, leaving rail passengers bemused and delighted.
The event was the brainchild of musical director Tim Allen, from Brierley, Barnsley, who set up singing organisation BeVox in September.
He said after the choir dispersed members boarded a train to Nottingham, where they delivered the same surprise performance to rail passengers there. The next day members staged further concerts in the Winter Garden.
Tim, 35, said: "We currently have 70 members in Sheffield but I am open to all-comers! People don't have to be able to read music or have any previous singing experience.
"It's just about giving people the confidence to perform and the chance to enjoy singing."
BeVox perform their end of year finale this Thursday at 7pm at Sheffield Springs Academy, Hurlfield Road. The event is open to all and is priced 2 on the door.
In the new year the singing starts again, with a free taster session for would-be vocalists on January 13 from 7pm to 9pm, also at Springs Academy.
