Rail staff on services from Sheffield are to vote on plans for a second strike in a further row over working practices.
Workers at Northern Rail, which operates most local rail services in South Yorkshire, are currently being balloted for industrial action over use of sub-contractors.
Now the RMT union has said it is set to ballot workers at Sheffield to London operator East Midlands Trains.
The union is unhappy about ‘failure to make adequate payments and arrangements’ for workers when Nottingham Station is closed for six weeks in July and August for resignalling work.
East Midlands Trains staff being balloted including train managers and customer hosts based at Sheffield.
RMT general secretary Bob Crow said: “We will not tolerate a position where members’ working lives are turned upside down, for little or nothing in return, to fit in with events that are out of their control.”
