REMPLOY workers in Sheffield and Chesterfield are striking again today in protest at the Government’s decision to close down the company.
GMB and Unite members at the company are will take their second day of strike action from 6am this morning until 6am tomorrow.
Staff at all the company’s sites around the country are taking part in the action.
The Government says it is more efficient to use the subsidy given to Remploy to create more opportunities for disabled people at mainstream companies.
Unions argue that Remploy factories would not need subsidies if more work was sent their way.
Phil Davies, GMB national secretary, said: “These are workers who do not have large amounts of savings. So for them to sacrifice a day’s pay shows the passion with which they have been trying to save their jobs.”
Unions fear companies hit by the recession will be reluctant to step in to offer places for disabled people.
