Sheffield council have been given a second chance to do something positive for this city instead of the fruitless years it has spent courting Sevenstone, who are clearly more committed to developments in Leeds than they are to Sheffield.
I sincerely hope the Sevenstone development gets off the ground soon but until it does I can’t see how the council can afford to turn its nose up at the revenue and jobs that the likes of Ikea and Next will bring. They pose no real threat to city centre businesses and the traffic pollution and congestion issue is a red herring.
Are the council going to leave the lower Don Valley derelict until they can get a handle on it? If we let Ikea – or any other large business – walk away this time, the council deserve to be hounded out of office. Doncaster is snapping at our heels for this opportunity. They won’t say no and who can blame them?
