Second arrest in flats stab death

A SECOND man has been arrested in connection with the horrific murder of a Sheffield takeaway worker.

Zabihullah Rafiq, a 30-year-old married father, was stabbed to death outside his home in Callow Mount, Gleadless Valley, just before 4am on Sunday morning.

A 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder in Woodhouse yesterday afternoon.

Detectives last night were still questioning another man, aged 18, also on suspicion of murder.

Oil tank ignites

A BUILDING being refurbished on Garden Street, West Bar, Sheffield went up in flames when a disused oil tank caught fire.

The tank, which was being stored in the cellar, had earlier been drained of oil and cleaned before workers drilled a hole in it to try to dismantle it.

Firefighters, who were called out to the blaze at 8.50pm on Wednesday, believe the drilling had made the tank hot.

Smoke inhalation

A CASUALTY was taken to hospital last night suffering from smoke inhalation after a garden fire spread to a conservatory.

Firefighters from Mosborough and Mansfield Road stations attended the blaze at Waterfield Mews, Westfield, Sheffield, at 6.50pm.

Switch smokes

FIREFIGHTERS were called out as a precaution to a house on Harding Avenue, Rawmarsh, Rotherham, after a light switch began smoking.

They isolated the electrics and prevented a fire breaking out.

Arson attack

AN arson attack was to blame for a Nissan Micra going up in flames on Broomspring Lane, Broomhall, Sheffield.

Firefighters dealt with the blaze.

Tumble drier fire

FIRE crews were called to a house on Burns Drive, Dronfield, after a tumble drier caught fire.

The flames were already out when firefighters arrived but they removed the appliance out of the property.

Head-on smash

MOTORISTS involved in a head-on smash on Chesterfield Road, Heeley, escaped without serious injuries.

Emergency services were alerted to the collision, between Scarsdale Road and Heeley Retail Park, at 5.30pm on Friday and found a Vauxhall and a Citroen had been involved.
