Rotherham MP Sarah Champion and Willmott Dixon managing director Mick Williamson enjoyed some of the summer sun with some Rotherham families.

Sandcastles, egg and spoon races and paddling in the surf were all the order of the day when families went on a trip to the seaside.

Staff from repairs and maintenance firm Willmott Dixon’s Rotherham branch organised a coach trip to Scarborough to celebrate Playday, a national event highlighting the importance of play in children’s lives.

More than 100 youngsters and their families were treated to a day of activities on the beach, as well as being bought their lunch and ice creams.

Rotherham’s Mayor, Coun John Foden, who went along on the day too, said: “Childhood memories are all about days on the beach, donkey rides, sandcastles and ice cream. This is a great event for children to have fun with friends and family, and to develop lasting memories.”
