A Doncaster metal thief who is wanted on prison recall is being sought by police.

David Jason Redmile, aged 43, from Oldfield Crescent, Stainforth, was jailed for two and a half years at Doncaster Crown Court in November 2011, for offences of theft.

He was released from prison on licence in January this year, but has since breached the terms of his licence conditions, so he has been recalled to serve the remainder of his sentence.

So far South Yorkshire Police have not been able to trace his whereabouts and are hoping the public can help find him.

Redmile is described as white, 5ft 11ins, medium build, with dark brown hair.

In 2011 he stole £5,540 worth of cable from railway lines in the East Riding.

He was caught by British Transport Police officers after taking 545 metres of copper telecoms cable from tracks near Goole.

The theft took place near Albert Street and Engine Shed Junction at around 11.30pm on Sunday, March 27, 2011.

Officers caught him in the act at the scene after Network Rail was alerted to a suspicious trespasser in the area.

Anyone with information on Redmile’s whereabouts is urged to contact South Yorkshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 487 of April 3 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

n Network Rail yesterday released figures showing a big drop in the number of metal thefts.
