Sean to be shadowy figure

HOLLYWOOD heart-throb Sean Bean looks set to score a role in a forthcoming fantasy film which is tipped to rival Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter.

The Sheffield-born actor is rumoured to have been offered the role in the children's epic Shadowmancer, based on a book by Yorkshire vicar Graham Taylor – partly because they share a love of the Blades.

Graham, 43, said: "I'm keen to get Sean Bean to play a character called Jacob Crane.

"Sean's a Sheffield United fan like me and I pictured him as the character as soon as I started writing."

Graham, a former punk rock promoter-turned-policeman-turned-vicar, sold his motorbike to raise funds to publish the book and within two years clinched the 2.5 million movie deal.

He celebrated the news by going for coffee and scones at his local cafe in North Yorkshire.

The novel is an old-fashioned Christian tale about the battle of good versus evil including magic, witchcraft, superstition, sorcery, history, folklore and smuggling.

Shadowmancer, to be produced by Fortitude Films, has been described as "a book that simply cannot be ignored".

Blades-mad Bean, who thrilled audiences worldwide with his portrayal of Boromir in the movie sensation Lord of the Rings, is believed to be keen to return to the fantasy genre.

Graham told a Shadowmancer website: "I am very fussy over who would do the film so I have been quite prepared to say no to good offers if I don't think they are right.

"We have people every week wanting to do the film.

"I have just sent a book to Sean Bean as I want him to play Jacob Crane and I know an English director who would like to build the film around him."

Filming is expected to begin later in the year.
