A leading Sheffield youth group had reason to celebrate this week when its new minibus was unveiled.

The Sheffield Sea Cadets raised a total of £8,054, smashing its £7,500 target, to afford the new vehicle.

Sheffield Sea Cadets chair Teresa Smith said: “Earlier this year, The Star helped the Sheffield Sea Cadets launch their appeal. A target of £7,500 was needed to buy a replacement bus to take cadets to their boating activities at Stocksbridge.

“The Bernard Sunley Foundation provided the incentive with a pledge of £2,500 which was soon followed by donations from HMS Sheffield Association, Royal Naval Association, Sheffield Sub-Mariners Association and the rest came from the hard work and efforts of staff, cadets and volunteers.”
